[The device turns on accidentally - shocking, really - from inside the pocket of Wilson's lab coat. The rustling of the fabric might hint at that. Someone's speaking to him when it turns on, but, whoever it is, they're too far away for it to be clear. His response comes through more clearly, but with the audio quality you might expect from being in a pocket against his chest.]

Well, thank goodness for grazing. How many does that make now?

[The response isn't audible, of course, and he's off, parting ways from whoever he was speaking to and heading towards the patient. This is when he notices, while glancing down at the file, that the device has been activated. He removes it from his pocket. He mutters to himself -]

Of course it's on.

[And, now addressing the device, though he hasn't stopped walking -]

Sorry about that... Busy day. Nothing like a curse that simultaneously makes people cartoonishly anxious and uncoordinated, and compelled to carry a gun. If you're not cursed and you can help it, it's probably wisest to stay inside today.

[As he closes the feed, you can just hear him pulling the curtain aside as he goes to find his next patient.]

I'm just assuming an assortment of NPC Shy Ronnies that have been apprehended and subdued for treatment and holding until midnight and probably a few victims of people who shouldn't be using guns having guns. SO, if your character would have wound up at the hospital, I'm open to more patients, ahaha. >>]

[ Okay, so he's not officially part of the staff yet, but that doesn't mean he can't make himself useful. And if part of making himself useful is not telling everyone that they are goddamn idiots, well, he'll try. ]

At least most of these went straight through.

[ No digging around for bullets, yaaay. ]

[It helps if they can hold off on the goddamn idiots thing until after midnight... but Wilson's happy to have the backup, and to let McCoy get some hands-on time with their (lack of) technology.]

That, and I haven't seen any wounds close to anything vital. Our cursed assailants don't seem to be much for aim.

[ He's holding back, luckily; none of these people are Jim Kirk, which helps a great deal. The (lack of) technology, however, is not getting the same tender loving care -- there's no swearing at it, but he does grumble under his breath every once in a while. ]

Well, most of 'em are shooting themselves, not each other. [ Thank god. ]

[It's easy to overlook the grumbling when you expect it... he certainly knows that technology and medicine advances quickly enough that even things from a few decades ago seem archaic to him. Besides, Wilson is hardly one to be put off by grumpiness. He gives a small nod to the statement.]

Most of them. I've certainly seen worse come in to the ER during a curse - the worst part of this one is really that they're being driven into doing this to themselves.

[ "Archaic" is certainly one of the words he's been throwing around, along with "medieval", "barbaric", "dark ages", and "cavemen". He's careful to do it where patients can't hear, however. McCoy's bedside manner isn't always the best, but he's making an effort. ]

Psychological trauma. Must be a lot of it, around here.

[He lets off a sound that's anything but a laugh, a silent expulsion of air to note his somewhat bitter agreement.]

Well. As resilient as most people here are - and, eventually, they all become so out of necessity... things do happen here that just shouldn't. It does stay with you.

[ There's a slight nod. ]

Starfleet's the same way. They give you the training to deal with it, and if you're medical, to help others deal with it... but some things don't heal as easily as a bullet hole in the foot.

[ And considering phasers can kill people in one shot, even if it isn't necessarily somewhere vital, if they're set high enough? Being shot might be preferable. ]

[He releases a small breath, a sideways incline of his head to note agreement.]

And any kind of training can only go so far. There are things that nobody should have to deal with.

[He's been trying to be more optimistic about the City, but days like today and company like Bones don't really help. Still, exerting a bi of effort -]

For the most part, though, people here do look out for each other, support each other... which is something.

[ Things like watching an entire planet disappear in front of your eyes, yeah. He shoves that thought down, however, more than willing to talk about human nature instead. ]

It is. I doubt I'd have had people offerin' to bring me coats out of their closets back home.

[That gets a soft laugh out of him. He's fine with leaving conversation abstract, too... general. Human nature is one of his favorite things to talk about - and the specifics of things that aren't supposed to happen in the City would be one of his least favorites.]

There's a sense of camaraderie with a lot of them. We've all been through the same thing, at one point, and then we go through things like the curses together. I can't say I'm a great fan of the City itself, but the people are a different matter. For the most part.

Yeah, it makes sense. It's nice to see when you're new here, though -- a lot better than being stranded where no one cares.
