So this is what passes for a political process here... from announcement, straight into nominations, on to campaigning, and, of course, into voting within 24 hours. A sudden, hectic flurry of an election for a position that doesn't seem to matter to those organizing the election.

If the position in question has no power according to those in charge of the process, then the election has no actual meaning. An election that has no meaning exists for a purpose other than to actually elect someone. In this case, probably a ploy - a facade to placate us. If they make us feel like we have any control, then maybe we just won't notice, or won't be bothered by, the fact that they can take away anything we accomplish if the mood just happens to strike them.

On the other hand, it would seem that we're stuck here, whether we like it or not. As long as we are, there can't be any harm in trying to make things a little less miserable, in trying to protect ourselves, in forming a more cohesive sort of society. The so-called "deities'" interference aside, there's no reason we can't work to make things more bearable, more organized, and safer for all of us.

On that train of thought, I was wondering; is there a current directory of healthcare providers within the City? The hospital is obvious, of course, but there are other clinics as well. It would certainly not hurt to provide a directory of medical personnel residing within the City, with specializations and contact information, should anyone need to contact a specific doctor directly. With the new guide, or guides, being worked on, it could be a helpful addition. Just a thought.

The election has meaning. Maybe it cannot change anything about the deities or the way that the City works, but there are still things that are in our power. Choices that we can make. We are not completely puppets here-- we are not always affected by curse, and even when there is a curse, many people are left unaffected. So there are ways to protect people when that happens.

It is the same idea as having a hospital. A police force.

I wish... that people will not lose hope so easily. I think maybe that is what the deity want, even down to saying that this election has no meaning.

Well, the election can have a meaning, if we give it one... if whoever wins the position manages to do something with it. Please, don't misunderstand; I would very much like to see that happen. The deities just don't grant it a meaning.

Then we will. Whoever wins this election, whatever they accomplish, there's no reason everyone can't work to make this place safer, to make it run more smoothly. If we all did, it could make a great deal of difference.

Well, at the moment. You never know who's stumbling into this place next, though... or who among the population happens to be a doctor and is simply not working in that capacity at the moment.

Primarily, though, I don't think it would hurt to have a listing of contact information, and what each doctor in the City specializes in, just in case someone has a specific need. Unless they'd rather shout over the Network... some people do seem to enjoy that.

I like that they're upfront about politics. It is all thrown together and mostly agenda. People who really want something done need to get their hands dirty and work for it.

Of course. You don't need that kind of position to help others here. It clearly doesn't matter to the deities, so why should it stop us from trying, on our own, to make matters better?

The warden position only has power if the one elected actually puts out an effort. If they lounge around and use it just for the title, then it does more harm than good if we let them boss us around. Don't get me wrong—we've had some great wardens in the past. But we've had the opposite, too.

As for the police force itself, we do our best and we know that sometimes people here don't think it's enough. But we try anyway.

And healthcare... well, you've got the hospital and your private practices, I believe. Some may be human, others healers with magic.

Well, I haven't been here for any previous elections, but those who are running do seem to want to help. I just hope that they'll be able to.

And I certainly don't mean to imply that I'm criticizing those who are putting in an effort; I'm sure that it can't be easy to try to keep order in a place like this, and I think the fact that you're even trying is something to be respected.

It does seem to be rather varied; I simply thought in addition to the general City guide, it might help to have a directory of sorts, for people seeking any specific kind of medical care.

So do I. And thank you. No, it's not exactly easy, but I remember when there was no established form of law enforcement and this is far preferable than nothing at all.

Ah, yes. Most just put out a general annoucement on the Network if they're looking for a healer or go to friends.

I really don't think I want to imagine what the City would be like without any law enforcement at all... things are chaotic enough as it is.

I've noticed that... I just thought it might make things easier, and probably faster, if that sort of information was organized and accessible over the Network.

Well... I think with the varied population we have here, it would have to include some sort of information for unusual cases, non-humans and the like.

It's not really something I'm experienced in myself, but with some collaboration, it shouldn't be difficult to include.

There is a public Laboratory as well as the Hospital. I have used several rooms of that installation in the past, Doctor Wilson.

The dimensions of the building itself is unknown. I believe that it has installations underground, but I have never accessed them myself.
